“It’s very important for there to be open communication between the government and the public during times of crises. A smartphone application that would provide real-time feedback on the public’s understanding of and compliance with government policies could be a very valuable tool, especially if these programs were designed in collaboration with experts in behavioral science”

“The era of top-down government communications has long gone. Increasingly, modern communications is evidence-driven, as it should be, given that taxpayers’ money is at stake. However, it can be both expensive and difficult to get real-time information about how an initiative will be perceived by the public. Opinion polling and focus groups are commonly used, but both have their limitations. I can see a lot of potential interest from government and the wider community in an application that provides policymakers with near instant feedback on their communications. In the midst of a global pandemic, this type of application could help governments act flexibly and effectively to keep their citizens safe.”
